Regardless of how big the bunny cage is, it is necessary for your bunny to get daily exercise outside of the cage.
How tall should the indoor rabbit cage be?
You want the indoor rabbit to be tall enough that your bunny can sit upright and not touch its ears on the top of the cage. Remember, that there are many cages that are big enough for your bunny, but are designed for a guinea pig. These are not tall enough for a bunny. At a minimum, your rabbit cage should be 18” tall. However, if you have a medium to large bunny, your cage will need to be taller.
What kind of floor should the indoor rabbit cages have?
If your cage has a wire floor, it either needs to be covered, or the wiring has to be removed. The wires can easily injure your bunny’s feet. This is especially true for rex breeds, which only have a thin layer of fur covering their feet.
What kind of door should the indoor rabbit cages have?
The larger the door, the easier it will be for you to get your bunny in and out. If you want your bunny to be able to go in and out as it wants, get a side door. Be sure that a door that is also a ramp is either solid or covered. If not, your bunny may catch its leg in the bars and get hurt.
